A Writing Sample is required:

A writing sample of up to 10 pages is required. It need not be specific to the area of Film and Digital Media, but it should show your strengths at crafting an argument or explicating a question. Please include your name in the footer of each page of your writing sample.

A Creative Works Portfolio is optional:

A portfolio of creative work which complements your statement of purpose, if available. Submit your most exciting and relevant work. Student projects are of interest only if they illustrate points made in your Statement of Purpose.

10 minutes of video maximum. Please do not submit a film demonstration ‘reel’ or montage of unrelated clips. A 10-minute excerpt from one completed film or video, or two 5 minute excerpts from one or two completed films/videos, will give the admissions committee a better idea of the nature of your work.

Please describe your proposed studies in the Film and Digital Media Ph.D. program. We wish to know why you think this is the most appropriate degree program for you, and how the program will support or extend your future research and practice. Please describe in detail the specific doctoral research project you propose to pursue in the Film and Digital Media Ph.D. program. The recommended length is a concise 2-4 pages, double spaced and in 12 pt. font.

This statement will be used in conjunction with your application for graduate admission and financial support. Note that the Personal History Statement should not duplicate the Statement of Purpose.
