The Program in Biomedical Science and Engineering: Chemical Biology, Biochemistry & Biophysics (PBSE-CB3) track offers a Doctoral degree.

  • Résumé

  • A Statement of Purpose is required:

    • Please describe your motivation for seeking graduate training. We are particularly interested in learning about your previous research experience. Emphasize how the Program in Biomedical Science and Engineering at UC Santa Cruz specifically fits your future research interests and career goals. At the end of your statement, list three to five PBSE faculty with whom you would like to interview. Limit: 2 pages.

    • Be sure to check the content to make sure you have the correct graduate school listed - UC Santa Cruz - before submitting. Include your name in the footer of each page of your Statement of Purpose.​

  • A Personal History Statement is also required:

    • Required of all applicants. This statement will be used in conjunction with your application for graduate admission and financial support. Note that the Personal History Statement should not duplicate the Statement of Purpose. Recommended length is a concise 1-2 pages.

    • UC Santa Cruz is interested in a diverse and inclusive graduate student population. In an essay, discuss how your personal background informs your decision to pursue a graduate degree. Include any educational, familial, cultural, economic, or social experiences, challenges, or opportunities relevant to your academic journey; how you might contribute to social or cultural diversity within your chosen field; and/or how you might serve educationally underrepresented segments of society with your degree.


Biomedical Science and Engineering: Chemical Biology, Biochemistry & Biophysics Fee Waiver Application

 

All applicants are eligible to apply for a fee waiver. The department has a limited number of waivers available and will evaluate requests on a case by case basis. Note: The online application portal states that international students are not eligible, however the program will consider requests on a case by case basis and work with the Graduate Division to allow international students to apply for the application fee waiver if needed.

  • Instructions:

    • At minimum, have completed, uploaded, and submitted the following items to your application: statement of purpose, personal history statement, statement of financial need, and your resume.

    • Not yet paid for your application to the University.

  • Requesting the fee waiver: 

  1. Domestic Applicants: In the application portal, follow the directions for requesting a fee waiver. If you are denied a fee waiver, please contact aldnolan@ucsc.edu to state why you are requesting a fee waiver and attach your statement of need. If you are granted a fee waiver by the department, we will provide additional directions for how to complete the application.

  2. International Applicants: Contact aldnolan@ucsc.edu stating why you are requesting a fee waiver and attach your statement of financial need. If you are granted a fee waiver, we will provide additional directions for how to complete the application procedure (DO NOT select "Fee Waiver" as an international student).

  3. Statement of Financial Need: The statement should not exceed one (1) page and should fully explain, in your own words, your need for financial assistance with the application fee.

  • Note: If you have applied, and received, a fee waiver for a past application cycle, we are unlikely to grant one for this application cycle.
