The Program in Biomedical Science and Engineering: Microbial Biology and Pathogenesis (PBSE-METX) track offers a Doctoral degree.

Below are specific requirements also needed for this program:

  • Résumé or Curriculum Vitae

  • In lieu of a Statement of Purpose, the following submissions are required:

    • A Research Interest Statement (limit to one page)

      • ​What has made you interested in attending graduate school in your chosen area, and specifically in the UCSC Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology Department? 

      • What are your academic and career goals?

    • A Statement of Previous Research (limit to two pages)

      • Please describe your previous research experience: Include what project(s) you worked on, the overall goals and your specific role. What did you enjoy, and what was challenging? 

      • It is more important that you address the points above for one project in depth, rather than to provide a comprehensive list of all of your research experiences, which can be listed on your CV/résumé.

    • A Personal History Statement (limit to one page)

      • Describe how your educational and life experiences and/or challenges have influenced your career goals and equipped you for graduate school success.
